PAYING TRAFFIC FINES If you have received a traffic citation, you are to appear at Riverside Municipal Court on the date stated on your citation. If you desire a court hearing, or if a court appearance is required, you must appear on the court date and time shown on your citation. Certain citations may be paid without appearing in Court if you wish to enter a plea of guilty. Any pre-payment must be made 24 hours prior to the court date on your ticket. (Mailed payments must reach the Court office 24 hours before court date.) To obtain information as to the amount of these fines visit http://riversideal.govtportal.com Please allow at least 3 business days following the citation date to request information, or for payment. ATTENDING COURT Municipal Court is held on the 2nd Thursday of each month and begins promptly at 3:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted on the City Calendar . In the event of a conflict or illness, a continuance must be requested by 4:00pm on the day preceding your court date. If you fail to appear in court on the date and time shown on your traffic ticket or to plea and pay the ticket BEFORE your court date, any one or more of the following things may happen without further notice to you: 1) A warrant will be issued for your arrest. 2) Your driver’s license will be suspended and it cannot be reinstated until the ticket is cleared and a reinstatement fee is paid. 3) A new charge of failure to appear may be made against you. 4) The fine is subject to being increased. 5) Any bond you have posted will be forfeited For any other information regarding your citation, contact the Court Magistrate during regular office hours. The Qualification Period To Run FOR THE 2025 MUNICIPAL ELECTION HAS CLOSED The next opportunity to run for Municipal Office will be in 2029 Alabama elections in mayor-council municipalities are conducted pursuant to the general municipal election laws pertaining to mayor/council cities and towns. These laws are codified at Sections 11-46-20 through 11-46-74, Code of Alabama, 1975. Absentee ballot laws applicable to municipal elections are codified at Sections 17-11-1 through 17-11-19, Code of Alabama 1975. Numerous changes were made to Alabama’s election laws since the 2020 municipal elections. Due to Alabama Senate Bill 119 passed during the 2021 legislative session and signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey as Act Number 2021-157, municipal elections that were on the same cycle as presidential elections were postponed 12 months, adding one year to the terms of the elected officials in office at that time. The terms of those elected officials expires in 2025. How Do I Qualify To Run For Office? Qualification to run for municipal office begins at 8:00am on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 and ends at 5:00pm on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Candidates must complete a candidate packet in order to qualify. Candidate packets may be picked up at City Hall during business hours beginning June 10th. DECIDING TO RUN FOR OFFICE? Before making the decision to run for office, potential candidates should recognize that they have dedicated themselves to accomplishing the common goal of providing the city with the best leadership possible and understand that the primary factor in the City's success lies in the working relationship between the mayor and the city council to best represent the citizens of the municipality. Candidates should also understand the structure of municipal governments in Alabama, the limitations and restrictions on municipal power, and the extent of the authority a municipality may exercise. A Councilmember , in cooperation with other councilmembers, is granted legislative powers to determine the policies that will be followed in the administration to determine the extent of the governmental and corporate functions of the City. The Mayor is tasked with properly administering the ordinances passed by the Council, and is charged with the general supervision of municipal departments, programs, and facilities. Elected officials shall make themselves available to residents as needed. All elected officials are required to attend at least 2 monthly council meetings, complete 5 to 10 hours of training per year in core curriculum classes offered by the Alabama League of Municipalities(ALM), and attend overnight conferences as needed. Potential candidates should familiarize themselves with the various reporting and other requirements of the Alabama Ethics Commission, the Fair Campaign Practices Act, and the State.   • Trash Pickup Update

    Meridian Waste has experienced service delays this week, which have affected Riverside and other nearby municipalities served by Meridian. The City of Riverside contracts with Meridian Waste for residential trash collection. City Staff has contacted Meridian Waste and requested information regarding the delayed pickups and the expected collection schedule. Updates will be shared as reliable information becomes available. Thank you for your patience as we continue pushing for answers and action. At this time, trash pickup for residents inside the City Limits of Riverside has not changed and continues to be on Tuesdays. Missed pickups may continue to be reported directly to Meridian Waste: online at https://www.meridianwaste.com/customer-care-request/ or by calling 1-866-440-3983.

    - The reserving individual, on behalf of the individuals organization, agrees to be responsible for any and all losses, damages or other injuries to property owned by the City of Riverside while that individual/organization or their guests are on municipal property. - Furthermore, the reserving individual understands and agrees that the City of Riverside will not be responsible for the loss, damage, or theft of personal property of those on or off municipal property. - Also, the reserving individual acknowledges that all trash is to be placed in a trash receptacle. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the premises.
